Unit 5:   What is your Legacy?

Unit 5: What is Your Legacy?

Unit 5 is a study and exploration about biodiversity, sustainability and the human impact on our planet. Students will begin this unit by investigating competition for and dependence on biotic and abiotic factors in marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. Students will then investigate relationships between organisms in an ecosystem. Finally, students will create their own investigation into negative human impact on our oceans. This investigation will be the major assessment for this unit, covering MYP Science Criterions B and C.
Unit 5 Overview:

Investigation  - "Break Out":
Day 1: Research and Planning Day
Day 2: Write your investigation (procedures); plan who brings what for the experiment
Day 3: Set up and run the experiment (organize and build day, test runs with equipment)
Day 4: Run the experiment (actually do the experiment and collect data)
Day 5: Wrap up day - clean up, final questions and concerns
Note - most students will need to write the lab report at home, especially the data analysis and conclusion.
