This page is dedicated to be an all purpose area to find information for 8th grade. Look below to find information about class procedures and policies that will be in place all year.
How do I know what we are doing every day?
There are two main ways to find out: 1. Check the online calendar on this website 2. Read the agenda every day that is posted on the class board *Note - the Managebac calendar is only for due dates and tests, it will not show you the topic for the day or when assignments are given.
Cell phone policy:
Students are allowed to bring their phones into class. However, students will keep them in the phone caddy unless instructed otherwise. The school cell phone policy will be followed in science class.
What to do if you miss a class:
Step 1: The best place to start is on this very website! Check the calendar (first drop down tab under "8th grade". The topic of the day will be listed on the calendar as well as any homework or assignments that are due.
Step 2: Now that you know what you have missed, navigate the website by using the drop down menu for 8th grade and go to the current unit. Look for the notes and/or assignment that you missed.
Step 3: Look over the notes and any assignments. Mrs. Thomas will ask you if you have done this step. After you have looked over notes, but you still don't understand, or if you have questions, come talk to Mrs. Thomas during tutorial time. Remember you get the number of days that you were absent to turn in work. For example, if you missed 1 day, you only have 1 "extra" day to turn in that assignment.
Step 4: Don't forget about the warm ups! If you missed class, you missed the warm up question for the day. We keep the same page for several weeks, so don't loose your page! Again, navigate by using the drop down menu and find the warm ups. Warm ups are always posted by dates. And if you loose that warm up page, print another one!
Where and when to turn in homework:
There is a homework bin specifically for YOUR class period. There is an agenda posted on the board every day for class. Read that agenda and when it is time, turn it in. The alternative strategy is to turn it in when you walk in, so you do not forget!
If the assignment is late, put the day's date on the paper and then turn it in. Remember, Meridian students are expected to have academic honesty - so put the actual date!
When are tutorials?
8th grade - I will have tutorials two times a week. It is very difficult to meet your needs if you do not come in for tutorials. Please respect the fact that teachers have MANY duties and responsibilities and we need time to do these tasks. Please come in during the scheduled tutorial time.
What if I failed a quiz, test or project?
Quizzes - Quizzes can be corrected (using the Quiz Correction Form) for up to a 70. Most often, this will be stapled to your quiz when it is handed back. If you need help with the corrections - which you will the first time you do it - come to tutorials. Corrections are due one week after the quiz is handed back.
Tests - If you failed a test, there are a few steps you need to do. First step is to meet with the teacher to schedule a day to come in and discuss the test - learn from your mistakes! At the end of this session, you will make a SCHEDULED appointment to re-take the test. After this, you need to study! Last step is to come in during the appointed time and re-take the test.
Projects - If you failed a project, read over the comments given to you on the rubric. Then come in to discuss with the teacher how to improve the project to possibly earn a higher grade. Unless otherwise indicated, project corrections are due one week after receiving the project back.
